The course is divided into several modules that cover different aspects of design in woodworking. The first module focuses on the fundamentals of design, including the use of lines, shapes, and volumes in creating a visual composition. Students are taught how to analyze different design elements and how to apply them to their own work. The second module delves deeper into the technical aspects of woodworking design, including the use of different materials and the various types of joints and connections used in woodworking. Students learn about different wood species and their properties, as well as how to select the appropriate wood for their projects. They also learn about joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon, dovetail, and biscuit joints, and how to use them to create strong and visually appealing furniture pieces.

In addition to the technical aspects of woodworking design, the course also covers the importance of aesthetics and functionality in woodworking. Students learn how to balance form and function in their designs, and how to create unique and innovative pieces that are both beautiful and practical. They also explore different finishing techniques, including staining, polishing, and lacquering, and how to choose the right finish for their specific project.

Throughout the course, students are encouraged to experiment with different design ideas and techniques, and to push the boundaries of traditional woodworking conventions. They are also taught how to critique their own work, and how to give and receive constructive feedback from their peers.
