Artist Statement
The platters I have sent to this exhibition combine quite a few ceramic traditions. The 1st is, The Palace Art Pot. Palace Artwork Pots ended up made to demonstrate wealth and ability. They were being built to notify a story, to commemorate an party or a person, and to reveal ability and problem the skills of the artisans who built them. The next tradition is the Fish Platter. Fish platters had been a staple of the Neo Arts and Crafts Movement of the 1950s and 60s. The third and past custom is the One-Line visual and verbal Pun, Platters of the ceramic Funk Motion.
Humor by way of the use of the visual pun was a mainstay of the California Funk movement. Humor in clay has a custom as previous as the use of the substance.
