Wiggenhall St Germans, Norfolk

The origin of Wiggenhall St Germans’ parish church is lost in Norfolk record but its determination to St Germanus suggests an Anglo-Saxon date – at least pre-1066. The lessen section of the tower is 13th century but the higher tower is 15th century while the rest of the church dates from the late 14th to mid 16th centuries.

There are two fonts – the present one particular is Victorian but the old font bowl on the flooring is believed to appear from the now-ruined Wiggenhall St. Peter’s which is about a mile south of St Germans.

The woodwork is an especial attribute of St Germans with a lot of aged and superior adorned pews from the 15th century. Some pew ends are carved to exhibit the lethal sins. Extra pews from the 19th century display images from the life of St Germanus. The wood pulpit is Jacobean, as is a chair.

The 14th century north aisle at the time contained a chapel to St Thomas Becket.

The church sits really hard up in opposition to the bank of the River Ouse and the elevated bank instructions a wonderful see of the river, the adjacent bridge and the church.
