Tunbridge Wells, Kent: Memorializing King Charles as a Martyr

King Charles the Martyr, Tunbridge Wells, Kent

The equinox marks the end of the year, a time of mixed emotions, and is the shortest day of the year. The author is on vacation and completed all their tasks prior to enjoying a few weeks off. Jools, however, still has half a day of work before being treated to a fancy lunch and drinks at a bar. The author drops Jools off and heads out on a mini-churchcrawl, driving through Kent to reach their destinations. They revisit Penshurst Church and take photos of memorials, including one that features the heads of Robert Sidney’s children. The author then drives to Speldhurst, where the church is locked, and onto Groombridge, where they miss the church and decide to go to a church in Tunbridge Wells. After attending a church service and taking photos, the author buys a Big Issue from a young man and gives him money. They then return to their car and scroll through Twitter before picking up Jools from her work party in Folkestone.
