Exciting discoveries under the rest room tile.
The first wall was painted a gold color. The decrease portion of the wall experienced faux subway tiles: scored strains in the plaster that were then painted with shiny enamel to develop a reasonably convincing “tiled” wall. (This was also performed in our kitchen area, which has a faux sq. tile wainscoting.)
At some very early position, a stripe of black paint was additional to the major and base of the “tile” wainscoting. (Potentially the same time as black paint was included to the trim in the kitchen — 20s or 30s?) This is amusing for the reason that my strategy was to set a black stripe of tile at the best and bottom of my subway tile tub surround! I am restoring it to its previously overall look without even figuring out it, until now…
Immediately after that, it was painted turquoise. Certainly, the exact turquoise as the living home and kitchen area were painted at that time. A person in the dwelling actually appreciated turquoise.
Someday right after that, the tiled encompass was additional around it all.
The unique lavatory most probable experienced a freestanding (clawfoot?) tub. The house was not terribly significant-stop a functioning course residence in a functioning course community. The bogus tile rather of actual tile is one indication that the residence was economical. And still… the woodwork in the living and eating home would be incredibly costly to do these days. Even a lower-conclude household of 1911 appears to be really high-conclude to us now.
