This is the Thorsen Household in Berkeley by Greene and Greene. Charles and Henry Greene ended up architect brothers from Southern California who have been motivated by the Arts and Crafts Motion of the early 20th century and by Japanese style observed at the World’s Good. A lot of of their most popular houses are in Pasadena – the Gamble Residence is pehaps the most nicely-known and is open up to the community for tours. This just one, created as a personal dwelling all-around 1910, is on Fraternity Row near UC Berkeley and now properties a fraternity, Sigma Phi.
“Affected by British Arts and Crafts architects like C.F.A. Voysey and William Morris, by East Coastline Shingle-style builders like Henry Hobson Richardson, and by Swiss chalets and Japanese woodwork, the Greenes made a special design of California “bungalow.”
