The observe of decorating interiors with painted murals reached its peak of recognition in North America through the first fifty percent of the nineteenth century. A lot of Canadian examples have been concentrated in nova Scotia, and this smaller parlour was the front space of the Croscup household house in Karsdale. An iconographical analysis of the scenes indicates that they were being executed when the household was designed, all over 1845. The artist would have been a British sailor who painted ships’ cabins during the summertime and undertook home decoration jobs in winter. The doorways and woodwork, with the trompe-l’oeil end, and the curtains at the best greatly enhance the impressions of a space with significant home windows providing on to the outside entire world.
