As part of the essential program knowledge pupils need to be able to define the system included in using a square wooden blank and getting ready it for turning between centres. These photos depict that system chronologically.

Stage 1 * Preparing of picket blank. Lower to size. Sand sq.. Mark across diagonals. Centre punch the centre level. Use spring dividers to mark circumference. Repeat on other close.

Stage 2 * Plane off corners down to circumference line. This usually takes cross part from sq. to octagon. This lessens pressure on slicing toll in original prep of blank. Mount among fork [driven] centre and dead [or live ] centre at tailstock close. Implement grease a dead centre conclusion. use drive from tailstock end to pressure fork into material at driven end. Modify toolstock peak to fit. Check for clearance.

Stage 3 * Roughout employing scraper to diameter. Use combination of gouges and skew chisels to increase beads and other attractive detailing as demanded. Ensure spindle velocity is proper for materials and cross segment under consideration. Obey all protection directions.
