The Whilly Boat was built by Iain Oughtred for construction in glued lapstrake maritime plywood, and is a person of his most common types. A later variation of the layout is called the Whilly Tern.
The Whilly boat is a 14′ 6″ lengthy with a beam of 4′ 7″. She’ll draw about 9 inches with the centerboard up and 3′ with the centerboard down. The boat weighs about 140 pounds in its “as-intended” configuration. It can be created as a well balanced lug or a gaff sloop sail space is among 74 and 80 sq. feet relying on configuration.
The boat will take its inspiration from double-ended boats used in the Shetland Isles. It is an excellent seashore cruiser, a serious jewel, but fairly bodyweight delicate until eventually ballast is included to the boat (sandbags do the job high-quality).
