The author found that store-bought cat-window seats were not up to their aesthetic standards and often required damage to be done to walls and window sills. Instead, they decided to make their own out of leftover cherry wood from a previous project. The shelf was designed to match a dresser made by a company called “Thor’s Elegance” located in Whiting, Vermont. The shelf was constructed with mortise and tenons and sits on felt pads against the wall. The author used a bent piece of metal track to hang the shelf from the window, which allowed it to be easily removed without damage. The shelf was finished with boiled linseed oil, shellac, and paste-wax, creating a beautiful and durable piece for their cats to enjoy.
