  • Northamptonshire’s St Mary the Virgin Church in Titchmarsh

St Mary the Virgin, Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire

The content is a personal travel diary written in a casual tone. The author, Ian, is travelling to Warrington for an audit and shares his experience of the journey, the sights he sees along the way, and his thoughts on each of them. He starts by packing and leaving his house early in the morning, before being dropped off to go to the car hire place. He then speaks of his disappointment upon receiving a Toyota Yaris instead of his usual larger automatic car that he uses to travel.

Ian decides to make a detour to Fotheringhay Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and executed, and visits a 15th-century Perpendicular church called St Mary and All Saints. He takes pictures of the interior of the church, which has several tombs and mausoleums from the House of York. On his way to Warrington, Ian also stops at Titchmarsh, a picturesque village with a famous TV gardener of the same name. He takes pictures of the church, but he finds not much of interest there.

As Ian gets closer to his destination, he meets up with a friend for an hour before receiving a call from another person he intended to meet. He is warned that heavy snow is falling, and he hurries to his hotel, which is a golf resort approximately 16 miles away. The last six miles of the journey in the snow are challenging, and his car’s fuel warning light comes on, but he reaches the hotel safely.

  • Northamptonshire’s St. Mary the Virgin Church, Titchmarsh

St Mary the Virgin, Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire

Ian begins his journey to the north-west for an audit at head office in Warrington. Though he’s not keen on being audited, he’s excited to take some snaps of the sunrise before Jools drops him off at the prom. He picks up his car, a Toyota Yaris, with no sat nav, which he finds a bit disappointing. On the way to the hotel, Ian decides to visit St Mary and All Saints, which served as a parish church of the House of York, including King Richard III, who he finds fascinating. He takes some shots of the church and its mausoleums before moving on.

As he passes by Oundle, Ian sees a church and a school, but decides not to take a closer look. Instead, he drives towards Titchmarsh, a picturesque village with thatched, half-timbered houses. Ian parks up and enters the church, where he sees many wall paintings with little of great interest. He takes some pictures and, as it starts snowing, sets off to see his friend Teresa in Warrington.

Teresa lives the other side of Warrington, so Ian drives through the northern roads, where he encounters two huge dog mountains, probably St Bernards. After chatting for an hour, Ian leaves for his destination, a golf resort, which he mistakenly refers to as a hotel. It’s around 16 miles away, but the heavy snow makes his journey a bit scary. He’s relieved when he finally makes it to the entrance, where he parks his car, and prepares to have dinner.

St Mary the Virgin, Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire

The author, Ian, is embarking on a work trip to the north west of England to be audited, which he isn’t particularly excited about. He wakes up early on a cold day and goes for a walk before picking up his rental car. He plans to visit a former colleague who lives in Warrington, but decides to make a pitstop at Fotheringhay, the site of Mary Queen of Scots’ imprisonment and execution. The village is home to St Mary and All Saints, a 15th-century church that served as the parish church of the House of York, including King Richard III.

After taking some pictures, Ian plans to visit other churches along the way but skips them due to time constraints. He eventually arrives in Warrington to visit the colleague, Teresa, and then heads to his hotel, a golf resort, during a heavy snowstorm. Despite the treacherous conditions and low fuel warning light, Ian arrives safely and settles in for dinner.
