Shirasaya, 白鞘 (“white scabbard”, storage scabbard) is almost finish. Tsuka, 柄 (handle) is by now glued jointly and mekugi-ana, 目釘穴 (take care of peg gap) drilled and reamed in it. Saya, 鞘 (scabbard) block has been equipped to the blade, but not to the blade with habaki, 鎺 (blade ferrule) – that is the upcoming phase. Experiencing surfaces of tsuka and saya are also equipped for zero-clearance. Notice that I’m not working with seppa spacer that is generally utilized to healthy every little thing by duration.
Just after koiguchi, 鯉口 (“carp mouth”, scabbard opening) will be carved, the two pieces of saya should really be glued jointly. The following action soon after that is to plane blocks into a correct bent shape with an elongated octagonal cross-part.
Some extra operations will incorporate:
– oiling the insides of equally tsuka and saya to protect against them from using in any water in,
– fitting a lasting mekugi and inserting it into mekugi-ana,
