    Shirasaya (白鞘) for my tantō, work-in-progress

    Shirasaya, 白鞘 (“white scabbard”, storage scabbard) is almost finish. Tsuka, 柄 (handle) is by now glued jointly and mekugi-ana, 目釘穴 (take care of peg gap) drilled and reamed in it. Saya, 鞘 (scabbard) block has been equipped to the blade, but not to the blade with habaki, 鎺 (blade ferrule) – that is the upcoming phase. Experiencing surfaces of tsuka and saya are also equipped for zero-clearance. Notice that I’m not working with seppa spacer that is generally utilized to healthy every little thing by duration.

    Just after koiguchi, 鯉口 (“carp mouth”, scabbard opening) will be carved, the two pieces of saya should really be glued jointly. The following action soon after that is to plane blocks into a correct bent shape with an elongated octagonal cross-part.

    Shirasaya, 白鞘 (“white scabbard”, storage scabbard) is practically total.

    Tsuka, 柄 (tackle) is currently glued collectively and short term mekugi, take care of peg created of bamboo, is put in to maintain the blade in it.

    Saya, 鞘 (scabbard) block has been fitted to the blade with habaki, 鎺 (blade ferrule). Now, it can be all set to be glued collectively and planed to the ultimate form.
