St Mary the Virgin, Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire

Ian is on a trip to Warrington for a work audit. He wakes up early in the morning to go for a walk while his partner, Jools, goes swimming. He takes some pictures and walks on Townwall Street until he reaches the car rental place. He is given a smaller car than he expected, a Toyota Yaris. Before heading to the hotel, he decides to go to Fotheringhay, a church where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and later executed. The church has historical significance as it was the parish church of the House of York, including Richard III. Ian takes a lot of pictures and visits the mausoleums of House of York.

After visiting Fotheringhay, Ian drives to Titchmarsh village and takes pictures of the church. He notices that the church has wall paintings but finds nothing of much interest. After taking more pictures, he continues his journey towards Warrington. He tries to meet up with a friend, but heavy snowfall and a car accident delay him. After an hour, he continues his journey towards the hotel. The last six miles are covered in snow, and Ian’s fuel warning light turns on, which leaves him a bit nervous. However, he drives carefully and reaches the hotel safely.

The author shares their experiences of a work trip to Warrington, UK. They start their journey from their home with an early morning walk before picking up a Toyota Yaris, much to their disappointment. Their destination is the head office, where they will be audited, rather than being the auditor. However, they try to make the most of their journey by visiting churches along the way. They first visit St Mary and All Saints, a 15th-century church which was once the parish church of the House of York, including the final king, Richard III. The author takes photos of the church, including two House of York tombs. They then visit Titchmarsh and take pictures of its church, which contains Victorian wall paintings but not much else of great interest.

During their journey, the author experiences snowfall, which delays their travels. They worry about the driving conditions, but soldier on regardless. They eventually reach their destination, a golf resort, while the fuel warning light is on, and park in a space near the gatehouse.

Overall, the author makes the most of their work trip by exploring churches and capturing the history and beauty of the places. They also experience the challenges of traveling in winter weather and driving a small car on long road trips.

  • The Church of St Mary the Virgin in Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire

St Mary the Virgin, Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire

The writer, Ian, is on a work trip to Warrington in the northwest of the UK for an audit as part of his job. He is not excited about being audited himself rather than being the auditor for the first time. He wakes up early and goes for a walk on the promenade before his partner drops him off at the car hire place. As he drives towards the north he remembers about Mary Queen of Scots being imprisoned and executed at Fotheringhay Castle, located in Northamptonshire. He decides to make a detour and visits St Mary and All Saints church which was the parish church of the House of York, including King Richard III. The church still mostly retains its original 15th-century style and has two House of York tombs or mausoleums.

Ian then continues his journey on the A14 and discovers an interesting looking town called Titchmarsh with a picturesque village center and half-timbered houses. He visits the Church of St Mary the Virgin and discovers that it has lots of wall paintings, mainly Victorian. He then continues his journey and reaches Warrington, where he goes to meet his friend Teresa. She lives on the other side of the town, so he has to make his way north along main roads, through a bizarre roundabout and finally arrives at her place. He spends an hour speaking to her and receives a call from someone who asks him to hurry as there is heavy snow falling. He sets his GPS to the hotel providing snow-covered roads, and after driving for some time, the warning light comes on, meaning that he needs to refuel his car.

The writer’s final destination is a golf resort located 16 miles from Teresa’s place. The last six miles of the journey, which involves mostly a main road, is covered in snow and becomes very scary for Ian. Although it is only an inch deep, the snow makes the road slippery, and the fuel warning light is on, but Ian finally reaches the entrance of the hotel where he parks his car.
