    The John Gwyn Jeffreys Shell Collection Cabinet

    This wonderful cupboard was constructed especially to retailer the comprehensive shell selection of John Gwyn Jeffreys (1809-1885) – a person of Wales’ most eminent scientists and marine conchologists. Due to the intent of the piece, it is less ornate than a cupboard produced purely for the show of shells, but it is none the a lot less magnificent. The whole cabinet is expertly hand-created from Cuban and Honduras mahogany. Double doors at the front open up to screen two columns of glass topped mahogany assortment drawers. Positioned on the cabinet leading is an ornate coral and shell wood carving forming a spectacular silhouette.

    I frequently show you pictures of previous buildings that were overlooked or left guiding in Pennsylvania and New Jersey when plans to flood the location for a dam challenge fell as a result of. Effectively this is 1 that was saved. In point the park service and the Millbrook Village Culture moved some to greater ground when they thought the flood was coming. They collected them into a visitor’s village. Vacant now for the winter season, but in the summertime it is stuffed with households and costumed guides sharing what existence may have been like in the previous. So that is great information – not decaying, not deserted, but saved! Have a wonderful Excellent Friday.
