  • Display Cabinet for Trophies

    Trophy Case

The Red Oak wood display case with 3/16 thick glass panels, clear lacquer finish and adjustable shelves was designed and built by Kevin @ North Valley Wood & Displays. The case is located in the hockey arena at Big League Dreams, Redding CA (off old Oregon Trail) and needed to be very durable yet elegant. It had to be able to withstand high humidity and temperature changes, as well as occasional skates, skaters and wild puck shots.

The case is 7 ft x 7 ft x 16″ deep and features crown molding and locking doors. It is open to the public and offers an ideal way to showcase trophies and memorabilia.

  • “Red Oak Tree Trunk Suitable for Shakes”

    red oak log for shakes

A 24-inch diameter red oak tree was recently saved from a local establishment and will be repurposed to create shakes for a roofing project. This decision to repurpose the tree was likely made due to its size, as larger trees are often more difficult to simply dispose of. Additionally, by repurposing the tree, the individuals involved in the project are able to create a more sustainable roofing option.

Shakes, which are commonly used as a roofing material, are typically made from cedar or other types of wood. These are generally considered to be a more environmentally friendly option than asphalt shingles or other synthetic materials, as they are biodegradable and renewable.

Red oak, specifically, is a type of hardwood that is often used for flooring or furniture due to its strength and durability. However, it can also be used for roofing purposes, as it is a dense and sturdy material that can withstand high winds and other weather conditions.

To create shakes, the red oak will need to be cut into thin, ¾ inch thick pieces. These can then be shaped according to the desired look and size for the roofing project. While it is not clear how many shakes will be able to be produced from this particular tree, it is likely that it will be a significant amount.

The decision to use red oak for this roofing project is an interesting one, as it is not a commonly used material for this purpose. However, it may be a viable option for those looking for a unique and visually appealing roofing option that is also eco-friendly.

Overall, repurposing a tree that would have otherwise been discarded is a great way to reduce waste and create a more sustainable future. By utilizing materials such as red oak for roofing purposes, individuals can also add aesthetic value to their homes and buildings.
