    New Lathe

Ever because my substantial college times in wooden shop class I’ve dreamed of possessing just a single leading-of-the-line electric power instrument. All those we experienced in college have been previous but completely awesome, designed in the times when woodworking devices ended up built to last. A several months in the past I made a decision that the one particular great equipment I would get was a new lathe. I looked at them all, OneWay, Robust, Vicmarc, Stubby, Nova, you name it and finally made the decision that, for the funds, the Powermatic 3520B was the one particular to get. I located a location on-line (Toolorbit) that had a Father’s Working day sale so I bought the mattress extension fundamentally for free of charge. The motor requires 220V ability and the line has not been run still so I have not been ready to use it however (sob) but I am going to be in business before long.
I will not feel I have ever labored as tricky in my life as I did obtaining this infant in the basement and then assembled. Luckily, I have a beneficial neighbor who stopped by just after operate to help me get it into the property. Total weight with the mattress extension is 711 lbs and I was not even equipped to established it upright the moment I connected the legs. But, with a come-together hanging from a person of the joists and perseverance I obtained it standing up and obtained the mattress-way items back again in put.

    Big Pot

Ahead of I began get the job done on this pot I drew up a program with measurements for every single phase and the over-all size and whatnot. It was going to be a vase and it appeared pretty great on paper but when I finished it off it was about the clunkiest piece I would ever accomplished so I reworked it into this pot which I am fairly delighted with. Birdseye and curly maple, walnut, oak and mahogany. 15″ diameter x 6-1/8″ higher (38cm x 15.5cm).

For the enjoyment of it I took some of the wooden from the pallet that the lathe was sent on and milled it to 1.25″ x 3.25″, glued it up into a board and slash rings from it for this bowl. So, I have a douglas fir bowl which is 15.75″ diameter by 6″ tall. To continue to keep the rustic appear in part I didn’t fill the nail holes nor patch the cracks around the knots. This is the most significant diameter turning I’ve at any time performed. The lathe was magnificent to get the job done with, BTW.
