Instructor Jeff Hammond’s Standard Small Craft pupils launched the Rogue River Driver on Might 20th, 2014. The boat’s start crew enjoyed a sunny afternoon with north winds of 18 knots.
The Rogue River Driver is the form of boat commissioned by the novelist Zane Grey in 1903 for a trip down the Rogue River in west-central Oregon.
Author Roger Fletcher, who documented the boat in his e book “Drift Boats and River Dories”, states the boat was most likely supposed to be taken apart just after its journey down the river and the redwood lumber employed for yet another purpose. Rather, for motives unfamiliar, that in no way took place, and the boat is now a historic artifact saved less than a rude open up shelter deep in a wilderness region.
The College was commissioned to make an precise reproduction of the boat, just one solid more than enough to make it the miles of river journey through Course III rapids essential to get to the resting spot of the initial boat.
The authentic boat was developed of redwood and nailed jointly around a wood sort. It was not supposed to past for much more than, at most, a few trips down the river.
