The writer describes their experience volunteering at the Palace woodshop and their love for the utility and creation of woodworked projects. Despite being afraid of the saws and drills in high school, the writer always wanted to manipulate wood due to its solidness, pulpy smells, and gorgeous colors. Now, the writer is working on a long-term project to make twelve large, period-style planterboxes with dovetail joints and all the trimmings. Despite sustaining some small injuries, the writer is enjoying the experience.
