Designed in 1879 for James Williamson, who was then at the peak of his occupation as Chairman of the Lender of New Zealand, the Pah demonstrates the affluence and grandeur of an early colonial mercantile class. The home is positioned on the maximum place of the previous Whataroa Pa, which afterwards turned identified as ‘The Pah’ – the identify adopted for the property.
