The over Window is dedicated to the Glory of God and in loving memory of Caroline Ann, wife of Robert Halford JP of this Town. Obt March 21st 1895.
Charles Eamer Kempe was a painter of partitions, ceilings and woodwork of church buildings in the 1860s. The design then in vogue reflected a resurgence of desire to higher church techniques. Kempe’s instruction served him effectively, and he started his individual stained glass corporation, CE Kempe & Co in London, in 1868. He was not a qualified artist, but was however artistic, and in a position to propose suggestions which could be made by his artists and cartoonists. He insisted that only the firm’s title need to take the credit history for the common of work developed, and that specific users of the studio keep on being nameless.
Kempe perfected the use of silver stain on obvious glass, which leaves a yellow tint, which could be fragile or deep dependent on the total of stain. His finest stylistic influence was the stained glass of Northern Germany and Flanders from the 16th Century. He took numerous outings to Europe, often taking the Kempe Organization artists with him. The insignia of Kempe, from about 1895 until his demise in 1907 was a wheatsheaf, from his family’s coat of arms. Soon after his demise, the firm was run by four of his directors, like his cousin, Walter Tower. The insignia then modified to a wheatsheaf with a black tower.
