  • Creating a Montage in Week 10

    Week 10: Make a Montage

The author describes their final image from a ten-week project spent in Beijing. They have captured the various ornate and colorful ceilings of attractions they visited, and arranged them into a mosaic. The author was fascinated by the meaning behind many of the patterns and images on the ceilings, such as the golden dragon signifying the emperor and the feng huang symbolizing the empress. The artwork also included emblems representing specific dynasties. While many of the ceilings and woodwork have been restored, the author imagines what it would have been like to be a royal walking beneath them every day, surrounded by such vibrant color and beauty. The author believes that everything can be a canvas, even ceilings.
