We couldn’t have questioned for a extra perfect working day to move the boat from the store to the Port Townsend Boat Haven to prepare for the start of this three year project.
This small tug was developed by the American designer H.C. Hanson in 1957 for the US Forest Service as a Scaler’s Boat. Scalers ascertain the amount of board feet of lumber in just about every log cut by a timber crew. A few of these vessels ended up constructed commercially in the mid-1950’s to this layout for the Forest Company for use in the western United States.
Beneath the route of Chief Instructor Tim Lee, college students at the Faculty commenced development in 2010 and concluded in 2012. The Traditional Significant Craft lessons of 2010, 2011 and 2012 all contributed to the design of this boat.
The tug is 26 toes extended with a beam of about 7 ft. It has a draft of 4 toes, and displaces about 4 tons.
Our tug is crafted as a cruising tug. It is planked in aromatic port orford cedar from southern Oregon, more than white oak frames. The property sides are mahogany. The boat is driven by a 39 hp Yanmar diesel motor, and was customized to the owner’s desire’s before delivery.
The tug was sold to an owner in Michigan, and shipped to him in late August, 2012 for use on the fresh waters of Traverse Bay MI
