In the South, the 2nd Empire style never ever caught on as it did in numerous other regions of the region. This case in point in Oxford, North Carolina dates from 1889, as a plaque on the porch signifies this was to the conclusion of the 2nd Empire as a dominant architectural design and style. This is the Hundley-White Home at 208 College Avenue.

The dwelling stands out for two factors: it is Next Empire in a compact Southern town and it is pink. The brick house is effectively rectangular with two tales, the second staying the a bit concave mansard roof. There seems to be a basement as well. The shingling is an alternation of pentagonal and brick-patterned product (I do not know if slate is used on this property). No iron crestings are present. The tower, also with concave slope, is centrally placed in the façade, mounting from the entrance to its height. Dormers jut from the mansard roof and from the tower the home windows are of a entire arch with steeply pitched hoods. The home windows on the very first stage are a great deal taller than all those on the roof region. The cornice is not bracketed but is made up of a vertical pattern of grey. The four chimneys, all with metal caps, are placed at both aspect of the dwelling. The porch is supported by 9 posts with a railing of practically rectangular woodwork in among. A frieze hangs from the roof of the porch. Steps primary to the wooden double doorways also have railings. A metallic fence with brick piles surrounds the household, and between the entrance two piles is an iron gate with a small wheel or roller for effortless opening. On a handful of of the piles are brass lamps, wired for energy.
