This is my most recent wooden operating job. I phone it a mailbox harmless given that I truly feel putting a coin slot in the best and contacting it a bank would spoil the appear of the wood. It is built of crimson oak (3/4″ I imagine). It was sanded down to a closing grit of 600, burnished and then finished in tung oil (the bottom appears as very good as the rest of it if you are questioning). The mailbox deal with is from the city of Bushton KS and retains a individual importance to me in that it was where the mail was sent to my grand parent’s implement store. In other words and phrases if you despatched in a test for assistance on your tractor or blend… that my grandfather had carried out. it was most most likely picked up by my grandmother from this pretty mailbox. The mailbox front itself is stamped 1957 and came with a card indicating its blend and studying, “National Lock Box Firm, Inc.”

the butt ends of the slabs..they are about 3.5 toes large at the ends, and 4.5′ long…fantastic for a tiny producing/personal computer desk.

..in situation you happen to be wanting to know, the paint inhibits drying together the finishes…if the ends dry way too quickly, checks or cracks surface. Some examining is unavoidable, but the sloppy paint can make a big difference.

these are slabs from a salvaged orchard tree I milled about 4 years in the past. Around the leading of each slab you can see the graft line exactly where the English Walnut was grafted onto the Claro Walnut root inventory. I’d really like to speak to a walnut farmer/grower about this total course of action, since from my end, all I know of these distinctive species is their color and woodworking qualities.

these slabs have lots of fascinating nibs and knots to play with.
