They also decided to install a new Subway tile white backsplash, replace old light fixtures in the kitchen and dining room, and add a recycling/trash cabinet and pantry cabinet.

    As a retired architect, the author easily designed their new kitchen with an Arts and Crafts style, matching the house’s existing woodwork and their furniture. They selected bronze/copper door and drawer pulls and bought new light fixtures with a bronze finish from KitchenSaver. Five dimmable LED lights will be installed below the cabinets and above the sink.

    Since the pantry and basement doors, door frames, window, window frame, and sill had over 100 years’ worth of paint, the author hired a contractor to strip the paint and repaint everything, as well as install wood baseboards to replace the ones previously removed. In order to fill in the dead space between the refrigerator and wall, the author removed an existing quad outlet and added a recycling/trash cabinet and pantry cabinet, necessitating the replacement of the electrical circuit breaker panel to comply with current codes.
