  • The Z-Axis Carriage for CNC Router

    CNC router: the Z-axis carriage

    Ron B. is a member of Milwaukee Makerspace and is currently working on a carriage for a CNC router. He is using SolidWorks to design the carriage and plans to machine it from aluminum.

    Ron has already completed the design and has started working on the fabrication. He is using a Haas VF-4 Vertical Mill to machine the aluminum parts. He has also used the laser cutter to make acrylic pieces for the enclosure.

    The carriage is designed to hold a Dewalt DWP611 router and is adjustable to accommodate different sized pieces of material. Ron has included a dust shoe attachment to help keep the work area clean.

    In addition to the carriage, Ron is also designing a control panel for the CNC router. The panel will include an emergency stop button, power switch, and controls for the stepper motors. He will use an Arduino to interface with the stepper motors and control their movement.

    Overall, Ron’s project is an impressive example of how the resources at Milwaukee Makerspace can be used to create complex and detailed projects.
