Filing cabinet Casa Calvet, 1900, Exhibition CentroCentro, Plaza de Cibeles, Madrid

The GAUDÍ exhibition is taking place in Madrid until February 5th, 2023, showcasing the life and work of one of the most significant figures in architecture and art on an international level. In the context of Catalan Modernisme, Antoni Gaudí developed a radically new architecture with modern and original projects, planning not only the structure of the building but also all the decorative elements it would include. The exhibition emphasizes the originality of the forms, ornamentation, chromaticism, richness of symbols, and nature as a source of inspiration in Gaudí’s work.

The exhibition offers a comprehensive journey through Gaudí’s entire career through seven sections and over 150 works from the most significant collections, such as the historical archives of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia and the Gaudí Chair, along with some private collections. From plans, drawings, and models to furniture, ceramics, and period photographs, the exhibition brings visitors closer to Gaudí’s main architectural projects. These projects include the Vicens, Botines, Calvet, Batlló, and Milà “La Pedrera” houses, as well as the Sagrada Família temple and his projects for Eusebi Güel, among others.

The GAUDÍ exhibition is an excellent opportunity for visitors to learn more about modernist Barcelona from one of its greatest representatives, Antoni Gaudí. With the exhibition running until February 5th, 2023, there is plenty of time to see the exhibition and appreciate Gaudí’s innovative and striking work fully.

Spain - Barcelona - Casa Batllo Internal Window 03

They don’t make them like this any more ! This is just one of the inside home windows by Gaudi at Casa Batllo which provide light deep into the approach. Also, not clear from some of the other pics, the wall is coated solely in a hand-painted giraffe skin sample to give it a texture reminiscent of his Trencadis (damaged tile) strategy.
