  • Dancer for Hire: A Private Performance

    Private Dancer

The author has posted a photo of themselves and joked about whether or not it makes their hips look big. However, the real purpose of the post is to discuss their recent assignment to take over a local photography group on Flickr. The original owner of the group is unable to continue running it due to family obligations, and so the author has stepped in to try and revitalize it. Despite having over 100 members, the group has not been very active, so the author hopes to encourage more participation by regularly posting photos in the group with their location. They are currently working on a project that requires them to take a photo every day for a year, and so they will incorporate those photos into the group as well. The author includes the equipment and software they used to take and edit the photo.

    365 Day 17

The 365 Project Day 17 is focused on the theme of metal. This theme can be interpreted in different ways, such as capturing images of metallic objects, focusing on the textures and shades of metal, or exploring the symbolic implications of metal in different cultures and contexts.

One way to approach the theme of metal is to focus on the visual qualities of metallic surfaces. Metal has a unique sheen and luster that reflects light and creates intricate patterns through its various colors and textures. Photographers can experiment with angles, lighting, and framing to capture the essence of metal in their images, showing how metal interacts with its environment and how it creates different moods and atmospheres.

Another way to explore the theme of metal is to consider its symbolic meanings and connotations. In many cultures, metal is associated with strength, durability, and resilience. It is often used to commemorate important events or achievements, such as medals, trophies, and plaques. Metal can also represent power, authority, and wealth, as in the case of crowns, swords, and shields.

In addition, metal can represent various feelings and emotions, such as coldness, hardness, or harshness. It can evoke a sense of industrialization, modernity, and progress, as metal is a key component of many technological and infrastructural systems. It can also represent environmental issues, as the extraction and processing of metal can have significant impacts on the ecosystems and communities where it occurs.

Overall, the theme of metal invites photographers to reflect on the complexity and diversity of this material, and to showcase its many facets and meanings through their images. Whether through close-up shots of metallic objects, abstract compositions that play with light and shadow, or portraits that capture the essence of metal in people and places, photographers can use this theme as a starting point for creative exploration and experimentation.
