Tam Makers is an art community based in Mill Valley, California, founded by Fabrice Florin and Geo Monley, aimed at inspiring people to participate in democracy through art, music, and technology. The community has embarked on a project known as Art Float for Social Change to be presented at the Earth Day, Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades in Marin, and throughout California this fall. The unique float celebrates Mother Earth with a carousel of waving hands, pulled by a giant feathered serpent. Performers will tell stories of hope on a stage decorated with scenes of a better world. Large signs will invite people to speak up and vote, and the news ticker will scroll ideas for social change.
Art Float for Social Change is a community art project created by a team of students and makers in March and April 2018, led by Florin and Monley. Tam High School has offered to host this project, and volunteers and partners are welcomed for the creation and presentation of the float to a diverse community. The float aims to encourage people to vote in the next election, and youth and people of color in particular.
Tam Makers is a learning center that brings people together to learn new skills, make things, and share their knowledge with others. The community aims to inspire others to participate in democracy through making and creativity, where people of all ages and backgrounds can learn new skills and collaborate on projects through classes, workshops, and events.
The Art Float for Social Change is an example of the power of creativity to draw attention to social issues and promote civic engagement. The float aims to inspire and create awareness through art, music and technology, where the community is invited to participate and share their message of hope and change. The float is an opportunity to bring people together and underscore the importance of democracy in daily life.
