Today’s Day by day Shoot assignment was:

Make a picture that attributes stripes of some kind now.

so I imagined I’d function on my lighting technique (boy, do I have to have function -) ), and share a picture of this Stars and Stripes challenge that I produced practically a ten years ago.

This is my very first (and, I consider, only) scroll observed job. Applying a pattern, each stripe was reduce from a single piece of wood, sanded, painted, and then glued to a backing board. For just about every star in the blue area, I drilled a modest gap, removed the blade from the saw, fed it by way of the hole, reattached the blade to the noticed, and slash the star. Repeat 49 more periods. Which is in all probability why I have not done one more these kinds of undertaking. -) The flag steps in at about 14 inches wide by 10 inches tall by 1/2 inch thick.

To shoot this, I experienced the flag suspended working with fishing line in entrance of a white background. The history shade arrives from a Rosco #68 Parry Sky Blue gel mounted on a flash, capturing via a glass h2o pitcher just out of the frame at the suitable.

Processed in Lightroom with a trip to Photoshop to take away the fishing line.

Strobist: Vivitar 285HV, 1/16th energy, as a result of umbrella, digital camera remaining (with lots of flagging to minimize spillover on to the qualifications) Canon 430EX, 1/64th electricity, blue gel, by h2o pitcher, out of frame on the ideal. Flashes induced with Cactus remote.
