A two-story house with original interior woodwork and fireplaces, with Queen Anne overtones and an exterior mostly unchanged since it was built around 1895, is facing demolition. The house is part of a row of four historic houses and a convenience store that a developer in Tampa is planning to demolish to build a massive tower. The tower, which would be 33 stories high and include an 11-story parking garage base, would overwhelm the small site, according to residents of the neighborhood, who are fighting the proposal. Although they have been successful so far, they fear the developer may succeed in getting approval to build the tower. The houses are considered to be of significant historic and architectural value and their demolition would be a great loss for the community.
