Almshouses, Warden’s Household and totally free faculty, 1668, designed for Woman Margaret Hungerford of Corsham Court. Rubble stone and stone tiled roofs, two and a half storeys, ‘L’-plan with major entrance to west, Warden’s Household to left and schoolroom to suitable, and almshouse array jogging east, struggling with north to Lacock Street. West selection has hipped roof with central timber cupola and leaded cap. Ornate projecting gabled centre with moulded coping, apex oval light and elaborate to start with floor carved Hungerford arms in pilastered frame with open up segmental pediment, further arms about pediment, crests more than pediment angles, inscription panel beneath framed by pedestals to pilasters with lion masks. Moulded elliptical-arched doorway with carved spandrels in Ionic columned surround with entablature, damaged forward more than columns, and rosettes in pulvinated frieze. Almshouse variety interiors not inspected but continual attic loft of some 14 bays with tie- beam-and-collar trusses, first curved pressure braces surviving only to very last 2 collars.
