    MEANDER Yacht c. 1934 - False Creek

    Vancouver, BC Canada

The vessel was developed in 1934 at W.R. Menchions Shipyard in Coal Harbour, positioned just east of in which the Bayshore
    Inn now stands.

The yacht was commissioned on April 24, 1934 — that day is significant as the design and style drawings are dated October 1933, indicating scarcely six months from start to complete of the vessel, a impressive feat even by today’s specifications.

This vintage double-ended yacht was stoutly created from the finest products available: • Yellow cedar hull planking • Bent 2” x 3” white oak frames at 9” centres • Teak deck planking • Yellow cedar ceiling (interior planking)

She is driven by a 6-cylinder Gardner 6L3 diesel motor, rated at 102 bhp at 800 rpm, which has been in continuous assistance ever considering the fact that. Like a lot of large yachts of the interval, Meander was “impressed” by the Royal Canadian Navy in 1939 for coastal patrol responsibility, serving as HMCS Meander in the “Fisherman’s Reserve” for the duration of the 2nd Planet War.

In 1945, Meander was sold to Pacific Intercontinental Airways, an clear subsidiary of Pan Am Airways primarily based in Alaska.

In 1948, the boat was acquired by Sydney & Walter Wilson and employed as a charter yacht beneath the title of “Meander Charters Ltd.”

In 1950, Meander was purchased by the United Church of Canada and from 1950 (or 1951) to 1963, Meander labored as the United Church Missionary Vessel Melvin Swartout II functioning up and down the West Coastline of Vancouver Island, based at first out of Port Hardy right up until 1953 she was moved to Bamfield.

From 1963 to1972, Meander was owned by Frederick Alexander Menzies of West Vancouver who operated her as a constitution yacht. On Mr. Menzies’ demise, the yacht was bequeathed to his son Robert who seems to have offered it nearly promptly.

In 1972, Meander was bought to Artwork and Norma Clements. The boat was ordered in 1975 by Hedley Rendell and Dennis Feroce. It was Dennis who required the boat and he was served by Hedley with the purchase via his enterprise.

For the earlier 37 yrs, Meander has been under Dennis’ treatment, and given that 1995 her inside has been fully restored, greatly benefitting from the contributions of Dennis’ wife Jan Lliffe.

Dennis still lives aboard Meander with his spouse, Jan. For a lot of of the last 30 years, Meander has been operated as a charter yacht, but has also been their cozy and cozy residence. The 1975 buy was a fortuitous point for Meander as Dennis, a Master Woodworker, has taken care of her in totally pristine condition and most importantly, managed her in a manner trustworthy to her initial 1930s classic style. Jan has lent a incredibly talented decorator’s touch to restoring and demonstrating the boat off fantastically with refined paintwork, attractive upholstery and fine inventive touches throughout.
