The Monastery of São Bento of Rio de Janeiro is a historic monastery in the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Crafted on the hill of São Bento, in the historic metropolis downtown, is a big inventive monuments of the colonial town and place.
The inside of the church is prosperous, totally lined with gilt ranging from Baroque to the late seventeenth century rococo to the 2nd 50 % of the 18th century. The 1st sculptor lively in the church was the Portuguese monk Frei Domingos da Conceicao (c. 1643-1718) who developed and carved woodwork portion of the chancel (the chapel was replaced afterwards), the wonderful statues of the nave of St. Benedict and St. Scholastica, and the superior altar of the church, Our Lady of Montserrat (titular church), and other is effective.
From 1714 his job was followed by carvers Alexandre Machado Pereira, Simão da Cunha and Jose da Conceicao e Silva, who notched most of the woodwork of the ship and numerous photos.

Between 1789 and 1800 he worked at the church one of the great sculptors of the rococo of Rio de Janeiro, Ignacio Ferreira Pinto. Master Ignatius redid the presbytery (1787 – 1794), preserving information but previously as perfectly as the screens on the everyday living of Benedictine saints, which were being painted among 1676 and 1684 by the German monk Frei Ricardo do Pilar. The stunning rococo chapel of the Blessed Sacrament (1795 – 1800) is also a masterpiece Ignatius. The lamps together the primary chapel was created and implemented concerning 1781 and 1783 by Master Valentim. In the sacristy of the monastery is the masterpiece of the painter Fra Ricardo, a screen representing the Lord of Martyrs painted about 1690.
Within the church there are seven chapels of brotherhood: Chapel of Our Girl of Conception (Design and style), St. Lawrence Chapel, Chapel of Santa Gertrudes, São Brás Chapel, Chapel of St. Cajetan, Chapel of Our Woman of the Pillar and Chapel Santo Amaro.
Currently there are supervised visits to church, where they are offered and defined the performs, images, carvings and architectural designs, amid other folks.
