The author had picked up Irwin pipe clamps and galvanized pipes from Anawalt Lumber on their first visit. They had since learned that pipe clamps call for black bar and had tested the difference between using galvanized and black pipes with the clamps. They found that the galvanization on the pipes breaks and flakes into serrated teeth when pressure is applied, creating a rough surface that damages the wood. The author switched to using black pipes to avoid further deterioration and will find another use for the galvanized pipes.

Pre-sanding, here is how the bottom of the top panel turned out. You can see the wax paper adhered exactly where my handmade flat-bars have been clamped on. This sanded out just fine afterwards with the random-orbit sander, and a number of grits of paper. I accomplished a tremendous-slick finish.

This is how the prime of the base panel turned out. The grains are matched up on this side, so it is really prettier than its base aspect. This is also pre-sanding, and it, as well, looked, and felt great the moment operate by means of 3 grits with the random-orbit sander.
