  • An Oasis of Bamboo

    Bamboo Oasis

Great style and sustainability can go hand in hand, as demonstrated by this kitchen that was designed using solid bamboo. Bamboo is a naturally renewable resource that grows faster than traditional hardwoods and is therefore more sustainable to harvest. This kitchen showcases a combination of the Messina 5 piece door and the Newport slab door with a horizontal grain, creating a contemporary and stylish look. Using bamboo as a building material is not only environmentally responsible, but it also adds a unique and modern touch to the overall design of the kitchen.

Kelsey’s bed is a modern, full size platform bed that has been influenced by Asian design. It is made from a combination of oak, bamboo, poplar, and Douglas fir, giving it a unique and organic look. The bed has a beautiful finish, with a deep India ink coloring that has been tinted with lacquer to enhance its natural beauty.

One of the standout features of this bed is the knock down hardware, which allows it to be taken apart or set up in minutes with only an allen wrench and a screwdriver. This makes it incredibly easy to move and store, and also means that it can be assembled by anyone, without the need for professional installation.

The design and construction of Kelsey’s bed was overseen by experienced furniture maker Doug Wedman. Wedman is known for his attention to detail and his ability to create furniture that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. He worked closely with Kelsey to create a design that would suit her needs and preferences, while also incorporating his own unique touches.

The use of different woods in the construction of this bed adds to its visual appeal. Oak is a strong, durable wood that is known for its beautiful grain patterns, while bamboo is a sustainable and eco-friendly material. Poplar and Douglas fir are both lightweight and easy to work with, making them ideal for use in furniture construction.

The India ink finish on the bed is both striking and understated, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to shine through. The tinted lacquer enhances the color and texture of the wood, giving it a rich, luxurious look. The finished product is a beautiful piece of furniture that is sure to be a focal point in any bedroom.

In addition to its visual appeal, Kelsey’s bed is also incredibly easy to assemble and disassemble. The knock down hardware system means that it can be moved and stored with ease, making it perfect for anyone who needs a bed that is versatile and practical.

Overall, Kelsey’s bed is an excellent example of modern furniture design that incorporates natural materials and sustainable manufacturing techniques. It is a beautiful piece of furniture that is both functional and practical, making it the perfect addition to any home.

I not long ago turned a bamboo chopping board into a magnetic knife rack for the kitchen. To do this, I chiselled out a grove on the back of the board and loaded it with Nd magnets. The chisel is sitting down on some of the bamboo shavings here. There’s anything gratifying executing factors by hand.
