Artist’s Statement on this work
Suminagashi, Japanese ink-marbling, is the artwork of capturing sensitive, swirling designs of ink floating on the surface of h2o with rice paper. Buddhist monks practice suminagashi as a variety of meditation and enlightenment. I utilized suminagashi to signify house as the unpredictable designs resemble galactic photographs. I included the Webb Telescope in metallic paints, and strengthened the suminagashi designs in sumi-e ink.
