Where by I dwell I generally see the very same planes all about yet again, the English designed no 3s, 4s and 5s.

So my coronary heart will usually pounce when I uncover something considerably less regular.

This is a Stanley no 5 1/2 jack plane. The style designation is 16 as in 1933-1941.

Whilst this is the initial Stanley with the so termed “new style frog”, I quite a great deal like this variety. The ones I have had have been extremely proficient and well manufactured planes.

This case in point is in great used condition with no other blemishes than a well fixed rear handle and a scuffed lever cap

The no 5 1/2 could not function at the major of the collective woodworkers very hot checklist. Considering that my individual preffered aircraft is a Millers Falls no 15, i.e. equal to the Stanley no 5 1/2, I can only say pleasant factor about this design.

I feel this combines two extremely very good issues in a plane, pounds and length. Confident more than enough, there are normally constraints what you can do with a sure lane, but I dislike the no 6, I only use my no 7 for flattening and as a great deal as I like the no 5, I very considerably like the included fat and planing width that the no 5 1/2 can offer.

So, thumbs up on al accounts.

One matter however. The Stanley no 5 1/2 is plainly and visibly skinnier than it is MF counterpart. The casting on the MF is thicker each in the sole and on the cheeks. So if you get to pick out, Id say, pick the MF no 15.
