This was a proof of idea task. I’d been wanting to make a “bowl from a board” for some time so I took some white pine, reduce it into 3/4″ x 3/4″ strips and glued it up with mahogany veneer in between each strip into a board 10 1/2″ x 14″ and designed the bowl. You can find tons of facts on the world-wide-web about earning this sort of project so I will never go into that. Just say that it is a pretty neat thought that involves a ton of tolerance, assumed and exact operate (that previous, anything I am challenged at). I truly feel confident now that I can danger some hardwood to make yet another these types of bowl but with a much more fascinating sample.
Just a footnote, it’s astounding how gentle some wood is when it is dry. The walls of the bowl are about an eighth of an inch thick and the bowl weighs just 4 1/2 ounces. It truly is 9 1/2″ diameter and 3 5/8″ tall.
