St Leonard’s Church
Charlecote, Warwickshire, England.
Committed to St Leonard, the church stands on the internet site of an before 12th century church, which very similar to quite a few others was demolished for the duration of the Victorian period of time. The current church standing on the edge of Charlecote Park was instigated and compensated for by Mrs Mary Elizabeth Lucy, who’s family resided at Charlecote Park. The church includes the Lucy family members vault.
John Gibson designed the church and Mrs Lucy laid the foundation stone through April 1850. Erected from blocks of ashlar stone, a massive rectangular dressed stone with even faces and sq. edges the church stays significantly the exact same as when Mrs Lucy planned it.
Considerably of the woodwork was made by Davis of Taunton applying wooden from the Charlecote estate and the patterns by John Gibson.
With the near association with Charlecote Park and the Lucy family members the church has quite a few exciting relatives tombs in the Lucy Chapel with the earliest staying the alabaster tomb of Girl Joyce Lucy spouse who died in 1595 and of Sir Thomas Lucy who died in 1600.
