In the South, the Second Empire design by no means caught on as it did in many other regions of the nation. This illustration in Oxford, North Carolina dates from 1889, as a plaque on the porch indicates this was in direction of the conclude of the Next Empire as a dominant architectural model. This is the Hundley-White Property at 208 Higher education Street.

The house stands out for two motives: it is Next Empire in a small Southern town and it is pink. The brick dwelling is basically rectangular with two stories, the second becoming the a little bit concave mansard roof. There appears to be a basement as nicely. The shingling is an alternation of pentagonal and brick-patterned substance (I really don’t know if slate is employed on this house). No iron crestings are present. The tower, also with concave slope, is centrally placed in the façade, mounting from the entrance to its peak. Dormers jut from the mansard roof and from the tower the windows are of a full arch with steeply pitched hoods. The windows on the first stage are substantially taller than individuals on the roof place. The cornice is not bracketed but is composed of a vertical pattern of grey. The 4 chimneys, all with metal caps, are positioned at possibly aspect of the dwelling. The porch is supported by 9 posts with a railing of virtually rectangular woodwork in concerning. A frieze hangs from the roof of the porch. Techniques major to the wooden double doors also have railings. A steel fence with brick piles surrounds the home, and in between the entrance two piles is an iron gate with a smaller wheel or roller for quick opening. On a several of the piles are brass lamps, wired for electric power.
