Church of Saint Roch, Lisbon: The chapel of Our Lady of the Doctrine (second fifty percent of 17th century, beginning of the 18th century).
“This chapel (the very first chapel on the proper of the nave), begun on 1 April 1634, was overseen by the Brotherhood of Our Woman of the Doctrine designed up mainly of craftsmen and artisans. The key graphic in the altar piece is a late-16th-century painted wooden graphic of St. Anne with the Virgin Mary in her arms (an graphic acknowledged as Our Girl of the Doctrine, i.e., the Virgin Mary getting indoctrinated by her mother). On the left and suitable side are late-17th-century sculptures of St. Joachim and St. Anne, mothers and fathers of the Virgin Mary. Although developed in the 17th century, the present decoration is regular of Portuguese Baroque of the initially fifty percent of the 18th century. The gilt woodwork (attributed to José Rodrigues Ramalho]) covers the whole interior floor like the ceiling. It is characterized by preferred Portuguese motifs – bunches of grapes, vine leaves, birds, and standing infants.” (Wikipedia)
