Came out lovely, reclaimed wood best (crafted by us) and reused forged iron legs, from the sinks, from a 19-teenagers previous unwed moms and kid’s house in Buffalo NY. (a aspect note: Why was there no residence for unwed fathers?…wherever ended up they in this problem?…maybe the Erie County Jail? Maybe a laundry where they could operate off their immorality like the girls might have been apporpriate?)
In our shop at ReUse Motion (Reuseaction.com) we fabricate slabs out of the barn beams and developing supplies we accumulate from salvage, deconstruction and demolition jobs.
In this project we re-sawed aged expansion, 3×8 barn joists from Bath NY. They are stunning previous progress southern yellow pine that was reduce down in the 1870s-1880s and was hundreds of many years aged at that time. These trees likely predated the American Revolution. I count about 120 rings per 8 inches!
The slab was created and completed with satin, h2o-based mostly polyurethane. Nail holes, checks and divots were being loaded to a large level of end with West Method, very clear epoxy.1 can see to the base of the holes.
The cast iron base was reclaimed from a bathroom of the previous unwed mothers and children’s residence on Harvard Place in Buffalo. It was created in the 19-teens and these legs have been ganged with each other and held up back again to back again forged iron sinks. We stripped them and repainted them with satin enamel and dry brushed them with pewter paint to emphasize the graininess and the embossed letters and other interesting information from the casting.
The length amongst the legs was shortened and the threaded rods were being shortened and re-threaded to match the size of the table. Matching toes ended up made and included to the base of the legs and levelers ended up additional. The aged sq. head nuts and bolts have been saved, cleaned and re-employed to preserve the authentic glance.
