Chloe was released in 1960. Details are sketchy until the late 1970’s when she was acquired by Greg Smith in Rowayton, CT. A study identified her as getting been built in Norway, but her builder is mysterious. Mainly because the initial mahogany planking had deteriorated, Smith experienced the hull re-planked with bronze-fixed Alaskan Yellow Cedar by a shipwright called Pieter Den Hartog of Hamilton Woodworking. Greg sailed Chloe on Extended Island Audio until 1985 when he moved to Seattle.
In the early 1990s, Chloe’s deck and sheer plank were being broken by a storm in Port Hadlock. A second restoration was carried out by Greg’s brother, Charlie Smith, former captain of Neil Young’s 100′ Baltic Schooner, Ragland. The deck and home have been replaced, and a self-baling cockpit was put in.
Following several family adventures in the Salish Sea, Greg donated Chloe to The Middle for Picket Boats in Seattle in 2018. Brandt Faatz, then Government Director at CWB, obtained Chloe. She was in fantastic issue but necessary cosmetic perform.
Just after a haul-out to refresh base and topsides paint, Brandt stripped and refinished the mast in December 2019 employing Awlwood. The household and comings had been refinished as a spring 2020 lockdown task.
Chloe sailed Seattle’s Lake Union by way of the summer time of 2020 and relocated to Port Townsend in November. She now resides in Port Townsend’s Boat Haven.
