Port Hadlock WA - Boat School - Traditional Large Craft - Kingston Boat

The Kingston Boat is a superlative example of a mid-20th century boat used for recreational fishing on the Puget Seem. It was initially constructed in Kingston WA, on the Kitsap Peninsula, northwest of Seattle.

Boats like these were being developed by the hundreds from about 1915 or so by the mid-1960’s. Examples contain the famed Poulsbo boat, the Mukilteo Boat, and the Sande boat (developed by the Sande boat Organization in Belfair WA). Most of these boats had been the products of one particular or two gentleman retailers, and ended up designed to fish.

The Kingston Boat is about 16 toes prolonged and is run by a modest Stuart British-created fuel engine that have to be hand-cranked to commence it. She is planked in western pink cedar more than white oak frames. She is a deep boat, intended to have a reasonable amount of excess weight in her capacious hull.

The proprietor of the authentic boat approached the School and requested that we establish him a substitute boat to his first boat’s lines. Chief Teacher Tim Lee’s Regular Significant Craft pupils manufactured a traces jig and very carefully measured the boat in the spring of 2011, then lofted and it and commenced constructing it in April. The moved together quite speedily and done most of the planking ahead of the system ended in mid-June. The course of 2012 done planking the boat and concluded out most of the interior. The course of 2013 will set up the motor and shafting and complete the boat for her proprietor.
