Port Hadlock WA - Boat School - Large Craft - Kingston Boat

The Kingston Boat is a superlative case in point of a mid-20th century boat applied for recreational fishing on the Puget Seem. It was originally created in Kingston WA, on the Kitsap Peninsula, northwest of Seattle.

Boats like these were being created by the hundreds from about 1915 or so as a result of the mid-1960’s. Examples include the famed Poulsbo boat, the Mukilteo Boat, and the Sande boat (developed by the Sande boat Enterprise in Belfair WA). Most of these boats were being the goods of just one or two guy shops, and were being constructed to fish.

The Kingston Boat is about 16 ft extended and is powered by a little Stuart British-built fuel engine that should be hand-cranked to begin it. She is planked in western red cedar more than white oak frames. She is a deep boat, created to carry a reasonable volume of weight in her capacious hull.

The operator of the unique boat approached the College and asked that we create him a substitute boat to his initial boat’s traces. Chief Instructor Tim Lee’s Regular Massive Craft pupils built a traces jig and meticulously calculated the boat in the spring of 2011, then lofted and it and began creating it in April. The moved together pretty quickly and concluded most of the planking just before the class ended in mid-June. The course of 2012 finished planking the boat and concluded out most of the inside. The course of 2013 will put in the motor and shafting and end the boat for her owner.
