FELICITY Ann is a little sloop, just 19 ft prolonged on the waterline, and constructed in 1939 by the Mashford Brothers Shipyard in Cremyll, England. She was planked in larch in excess of oak frames, and is 1 of four boats constructed to the “Four Ton” class, all of which, it is considered, keep on being in existance.

She was designed famous by Englishwoman Ann Davison, who employed her to become the initially lady to sail by itself throughout the Atlantic Ocean, a feat Ann memorialized in her book “My Ship is So Smaller”. (Ann wrote five books about her life span, all of them properly worth looking at).

Just after Ann accomplished her epic voyage in the winter season of 1952-3, she sailed up the Atlantic coast through the Inter-Coastal Waterway and exhibited her boat at the 1953 New York Boat Exhibit. The story and pics of her voyage appeared in Lifetime journal at the time.

She finally offered FELICITY ANN, which handed as a result of a sequence of entrepreneurs who did just take care of her, and the very little sloop ultimately ended up sheltered in Alaska. She was donated to the College in 2009.

Pursuing basic stabilization and preliminary restoration work for the duration of the 2011 and 2012 Repair and Restoration classes, the sloop was established aside to serve as the centerpiece for a community-centered challenge intended to introduce women of all ages to primary shipwright capabilities and substantial university girls to standard woodworking capabilities. The software is supported by the community 4H program.
