Port Hadlock WA - Boat School - FELICITY ANN in her bow shelter

FELICITY Ann is a smaller sloop, just 19 feet long on the waterline, built in 1939 by the Mashford Brothers Shipyard in Cremyll, England. She was planked in larch around oak frames, and is just one of 4 boats created to the “4 Ton” course, all of which, it is believed, continue being in existance.

She was manufactured famous by Englishwoman Ann Davison, who utilized her to develop into the very first lady to sail on your own throughout the Atlantic Ocean, a feat Ann memorialized in her e-book “My Ship is So Modest”.

Immediately after Ann finished her epic voyage in the winter of 1952-3, she sailed up the Atlantic coastline via the Inter-Coastal Waterway and exhibited her boat at the 1953 New York Boat Demonstrate. The tale and images of her voyage appeared in Existence magazine at the time.

She eventually marketed FELICITY ANN, which passed as a result of a sequence of owners who did take treatment of her, and the minimal sloop ultimately finished up sheltered in Alaska. She was donated to the Faculty in 2009.

Adhering to fundamental stabilization and original restoration get the job done throughout the 2011 and 2012 Mend and Restoration lessons, the sloop was established apart to serve as the centerpiece for a community-dependent job developed to introduce women to basic shipwright skills and substantial school girls to simple woodworking capabilities. The plan is supported by the area 4H system.
