Planing off the corners *  The Woodwork Lathe * Preparing a wooden blank for turning between centres * Craft & Design / Product Design

As component of the expected class awareness pupils will need to be ready to define the process involved in using a square wooden blank and preparing it for turning in between centres. These images depict that process chronologically.

Phase 1 * Preparing of picket blank. Slice to sizing. Sand sq.. Mark throughout diagonals. Centre punch the centre place. Use spring dividers to mark circumference. Repeat on other end.

Phase 2 * Airplane off corners down to circumference line. This takes cross area from square to octagon. This reduces pressure on chopping toll in first prep of blank. Mount in between fork [driven] centre and useless [or live ] centre at tailstock close. Implement grease a dead centre conclusion. apply force from tailstock close to force fork into materials at driven finish. Change toolstock top to suit. Check for clearance.

Stage 3 * Roughout working with scraper to diameter. Use blend of gouges and skew chisels to add beads and other attractive detailing as essential. Ensure spindle velocity is correct for materials and cross portion below thought. Obey all security directions.
