Folklorist Dennis Coelho Photographs, 1977

This article showcases the photography work of Folklorist Dennis Coelho, who was a part of the South Georgia Folklife Project. Coelho captured images of various elements of Wiregrass Country’s social life and customs in the Okefenokee Swamp of Georgia and Florida. One of his photographs depicts a carved bird that serves as an example of the traditional wood-carving practices in this region. The image, housed in the Valdosta State University Archives and Special Collections, is part of the Library of Congress field survey conducted by the American Folklife Center.
